STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Almost two summers have gone by as SentryWorld remodelled the golf course and the sports complex. Part of the renovated facilities are now open. Spokesman Randy Winter says the former Sport Plate Restaurant is gone, and today is the grand opening of PJ’s -SentryWorld. Winter it’s a brand new facility, staff, and menu.  “We have an Executive Chef named Brandon McCormick-Guthu who grew up in Amherst. He has great experience as a chef, and he likes to say it’s a Wisconsin inspired theme, so if you like the food that your grandma or grandpa or mom and dad made, you’ll probably like what you find at PJ’s Sentry World.”

The multimillion dollar renovation has been opening certain parts of the center as they are completed. “The Grand Ballroom is open, the community room is open, and we’ve already had a wedding at Sentry World, but the Field House, which is what most people would refer to as the old sports complex, the field house that houses the six tennis courts, that is not open yet.”

Many people ask about the golf course, which has gone almost two complete seasons without public play. Winter says a couple of charity events have been held on the course, and there’s a fundraising event taking place Tuesday that gives many golfers their first chance to play the redesigned course. “The United Way of Portage County actually did an online bidding auction. They generated just over $15,000 towards their campaign for this year, and so tomorrow on Tuesday, golfers who won the right to start their 18 holes of golf at a specific hole will all play.”

PJ’s – SentryWorld is named after PJ Jacobs, who was active in the community during his lifetime.
