BROKAW, Wis (WSAU) The Brokaw Paper Mill has been sold again. Niagara Worldwide LLC bought the property from Wausau Paper last August. Now they’ve sold the 50-acre site to Brokaw Holdings, a subsidiary of B & B Metals in Manitowoc. B & B is a scrap metal company owned by Bob Burrows.Because the buyer and seller are both privately-held companies, the purchase price has not been made public.
It’s also not clear what Brokaw Holdings might do with the property.
When Niagara Worldwide bought the facility they’d talked about a multi-company manufacturing and distribution site. No specific plans had been announced. Niagara was also going to auction some of the material salvaged from the plant. That auction has been cancelled.
Niagara had also been in a dispute with Brokaw village leaders over whether equipment and scrap were being removed from the mill without a permit. The village got a court injunction to block any items from being removed from the property. The old owners denied they’d done anything wrong.
Wausau Paper shut down the mill in early 2012, costing the area 450 jobs.
