STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) - Portage County has a new Emergency Management Director.
County Executive Patty Dreier announced late Tuesday that she has selected Keith Krueger as the permanent replacement for retired Director Sandy Curtiss. Coreena Neeb was the Interim Director, and she has accepted a similar position with the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point to work on campus emergency planning.
Dreier says she will bring Krueger’s appointment through the Public Safety & Emergency Management Committee and then to the May 21st County Board meeting for confirmation. Krueger could take office as soon as the Board confirms the appointment.
Keith Krueger was raised on a dairy farm in Marathon County and has spent over 20 years in the U.S. Army holding various leadership posts. He has experience leading action teams during disasters and humanitarian assistance missions. He has also handled several national special security events. He has a Masters in Science and Administration degree from Central Michigan University with two Bachelor of Science degrees from UW-River Falls in Political Science and Agriculture Business. Krueger is a doctoral candidate in Emergency Management from Capella University School of Public Service Leadership with graduation expected later this year.
Krueger is leaving a post as Senior Planner for FEMA’s Earthquake and Tsunami Response team in California.
