WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Marathon County will hire two additional corrections officers to help with understaffing at the jail. The proposal from sheriff Scott Parks was approved by the human resources committee on Monday. The full county board is expected to OK the proposal at their next meeting.
Two more officers will cut down on staff overtime and will allow more officers to be on-duty when the jail is overcrowded. The jail currently houses 306 inmates, 27 over its capacity.
The new officers will be hired in September, and will earn about $50,000 a year including benefits.
The county board will also consider recommendations from its jail safety panel this month, including the hiring of 8 part-time officers to help with courthouse security.
