UPDATE: The prosecution has rested its case. Assistant District Attorney Veronica Isherwood says defense witnesses will be called to the stand beginning Tuesday morning, and she's not sure how many will testify. Dr. Robert F. Corliss from the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison testified Monday as an expert witness for the prosecution, explaining what he found during the autopsy of 2-year-old Felix Espinoza-Villa. Defense attorney Gary Schmaus chose not to cross examine Corliss.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- A reckless homicide trial against a Bancroft man is continuing today in Stevens Point.
Today marks the beginning of the second week in the trial against Reymundo Perez, who is accused of throwing a toddler to the ground, and causing the injuries that killed him. Two-year-old Felix Espinoza-Villa died October 28th of 2011.
Last week’s testimony focused on prosecution witnesses and recorded interviews. The defense is scheduled to start calling witnesses as early as today.
Perez is charged with 1st degree reckless homicide and child abuse recklessly causing great harm. So far, recorded interviews have shown where the child’s mother Beatrice Villa has struck the child with a belt or a sandal, and the defense is expected to argue the child’s fatal injuries were due to the mother’s actions.
